Pet Health Insurance Can Add Up To Big Savings E-mail

People would usually not associate pets with healthcare coverage. However, many families consider pet health insurance as a valuable asset that they could use. We have several pets that share our home and we know that the veterinary costs can pile up quickly when multiple pets are being cared for in a single household.

Our pet doctor is really wonderful. She loves to see our animals and she even gives our family the occasional discount since we have so many pets. However, our bills are getting out of hand, even with the occasional breaks that we receive from our vet. Fortunately, we were able to answer our dilemma by turning with the help of pet health insurance.

We decided to check out some pet health insurance instead of putting off getting our pets’ annual shots and check-ups. I used to think that the notion was a little silly even though we were falling behind in payments. I did not realize that pet health insurance would cost less than the annual vet bills we already had.

However, I discarded this way of thinking when one of our older dogs became very ill. Our veterinarian told us that our dog had developed a heart condition and was losing his eyesight to a cataract, when we took our pet for his annual physical. She explained that some dog breeds usually develop Juvenile Diabetes and have heart trouble.

A battery of tests would have to be run on our dog to determine if medication can manage the heart condition. The estimated cost for the test was very high. We took our dog back home and discussed our options including pet health insurance that I thought was silly before.

I decided to find out more about the healthcare for pets by doing an Internet search. I was able to find several companies that offered pet health insurance. I contacted a few of these companies until I found one with a healthcare plan that agreed to cover our pets even with our dog’s diagnosis. The company also gave a discount for families with multiple pets.

We checked with our vet to be sure that they accepted the coverage before we signed an agreement. We also made sure that the insurance included lab work, tests and medications. It turned out that the monthly fees were actually very affordable. We took the insurance to our vet and went forward with the tests for our dog.

Fortunately, we were able to afford the entire bill and the cost of the medication for our dog’s heart condition. Insuring the health of their pets is an option that families with more than one pet should take. The pet health insurance allowed us to have more time with our dog.
