Pet Food Storage - Keeping it Simple E-mail
We have two hunting dogs at home and they stay outside our house in a large kennel area. Our dogs’ kennel is attached to a small storage shed in the yard. The shed protects our pets from the elements and it’s also is a convenient spot for storing dog food. We had been storing the dog food in the shed for about two months when I noticed that there are a few pieces of food scattered in the shed.

I inspected the shed and discovered that a mouse had chewed a hole in the bottom of the bag that contains the pet food. My husband and I decided that we to have to find a mouse proof pet food storage for our dogs. My husband covered the hole with a piece of duct tape until we were able to go shopping.

We went shopping for a pet food storage container the next day. My husband insisted that we go to a pet supply store to find what we need. I tried to explain to him that we should check at a discount store first, but he thought that the pet supply place would have the best solution. The store indeed had several containers for pet food storage.

One type cost $75 and had a device that would measure the exact amount for the pet and deliver it in a small container for feeding. You simply had to set the amount of food you wanted for your pet and then press a button each time you wanted to fill their dish. Gravity will then do the rest and the serving size will come out at the bottom of the container.

However, my husband decided that he could measure the food himself, and so we moved on to look at other containers. He finally settled on a flip lid plastic container that had paw prints on it. This heavy duty plastic bin was still expensive for pet food storage, but it was the cheapest the store had available. We went to a discount store to pick up other items that we needed for the house after we bought the pet food storage container.

I was looking for merchandise that was on my shopping list when my husband went off to shop by himself. I found him walking down the aisle carrying a large plastic container. It was the same size and style as the one that we had just purchased for the pet food storage. However, this container was less than half the cost of the one we bought from the pet supply store.

My husband put the container in my cart and told me he would pick me up at the front door. He explained that that he was going to take the other container back to the pet supply store. The container we bought at the discount store is perfect for pet food storage.
