How to Properly Use Dog Cages |
|
|
My cousin has three cute and adorable dogs. However, she leaves her
dogs in cages while she is at work from early in the morning up to late
in the afternoon. I feel upset every time I think of her poor dogs
being kept in dog cages for most of the day. I do not think that is
being a responsible dog owner. I mean, those poor animals are in their
cages for almost 12 hours every day! Not to mention that they spend
time in the dog cages when she is out shopping for groceries or running
errands.
Of course, I understand that dog cages are a necessity. I would not want to let my dog roam freely around my house when I am not at home. However, if have a schedule that is not very accommodating to a dog, then I would rather not own one.
Cages are not meant to contain dogs all day long, and they are also not meant to be places of punishment. If you punish your dogs by sending them into dog cages, they will grow to feel unsafe and not secure in them.
Dog cages come in many varieties. They come in all different sizes because dogs vary greatly in size. If you love your dog enough, you will get the proper and safest cage for your pet’s needs. I personally dislike cages that don't have a solid bottom. Dogs do not feel comfortable in those types of cages. It is best if you can put some comfy and familiar items in the dog cages with them. They could at least entertain themselves for a period of time if they have a bone or toys in the cage with them.
I would highly suggest putting a nice blanket in for them to lie on or even a soft dog bed. You can purchase all of these necessary supplies at the nearest pet stores. You ask a salesperson for help about the dog cages that will work for you and the sales person will also be able to suggest some great items that will be needed as well.
I'm not saying that dog cages are a bad invention. I am trying to say that is can be a bad thing if you frequently lock your dog up for very long days. Cages can be a way to train a dog and places of comfort for your pet. You just have to make sure they are safe and comfortable when they are inside their cages.
